| Stamina Trac Glider is a bestseller on the internet – mainly because of its price. But beware, he has his weaknesses. For some it will certainly make things easier, for others it will be a cheap way to stay in shape. Nowadays it may seem very outdated – almost retro – but others might call it rough with its mechanical resistance system. This is a hydraulic rowing machine that uses a piston under the main column to provide resistance. Some of our reviewers have found that regular intensive use leads to piston problems. After about 15 minutes of use, the resistance decreases and it is practically no longer necessary to row. This does not seem to be a problem for light users, so it is probably a problem that has to do with the gas/oil mixture in the piston. However, if you buy an oarsman to lose weight, a resistance problem can prevent you from training long enough and at the right speed to start burning fat. Another case for us are the footrests. Three of the five testers had difficulty holding their legs – which means they had to stop to get them back into position. It also means that every time you try to row faster, you wait for your legs to jump again! A big unwanted distraction and one of the most disappointing things you have to go through if you try to have a good session. This problem can be solved by thicker Velcro strips, but things need to be sorted out before they are put on the market. The seat is comfortable enough for an economical model and the action is perfect for short workouts of fifteen minutes or less. If you plan to study for a long period of time, this model may seem less suitable. It is sturdy enough for a small car and can be folded for easy storage, which is a plus when space is limited. Twelve levels of resistance should be enough for most users – but keep in mind that they can fall during long workouts. Console/Monitor There are no pre-installed programs or the ability to maintain training performance – but it’s a budget model, so don’t expect too much. It’s small and not much better placed, but frankly it won’t show much useful information to keep you interested during your training.

For $50 extra you get the best model with a lightweight Stamina Easy Glide. If you can spend more and prefer this type of rower, we think Kettler Kadett is better. Or one of the other endurance models would be better – see Orbital – it still costs $100, but it’s worth it.

I’m 1.80 m tall and I find some rowers difficult to use, but the Trac Glider works very well for me. I feel strong when I row fast, and I like to row with both oars instead of the stick you have with most rowers. My only problem is that the chair is uncomfortable. I bought a thin pillow and tied it to the seat. I guess if you pay less than $150, you can’t expect things to go well. Larry M. (3 months)
A lot of crap. I don’t recommend it. Sometimes the resistance is stiff and sometimes weak. My legs kept moving freely because the tires are completely useless – it’s very annoying when you try to move. I understand that this is a cheap model, but something as simple as putting on a belt that really works shouldn’t fall outside the manufacturer’s scope! In the back of the garage there is now room for Kettler, who I hope to buy in the new year. Character W. (only 2 months)
