|Schwinn is the brand name of Nautilus, a reliable name for fitness equipment and known to many for its strength training equipment. So what can they do with rowers? Here is my overview of your average budget model team.
As with all home fitness equipment, you first have to unpack and pack – which is not our favourite task. Fortunately, the Schwinn Crewmaster consists of two parts that require little work to assemble.
One to Schwinn!
So, in a comfortable rowing position. The chair is generally wide, as can be found on a number of rowers in this price category. It’s perfect for most people, and by the way, if you’re uncomfortable about the size of your buttocks – you’ll either be comfortable soon if you lose weight, or you can buy a gel pillow that fits over it. The seat rolls up and down smoothly over the railing. Note that the rail (or beam) is about 1.5 m long, which is also suitable for a taller rower, up to 1.4 m.
The opposite end of the footrest is wide, adjustable and holds even the largest legs in place. The handle is non-slip and has the right diameter, making it easy to hold and prevents slipping, which can cause blisters on the hand. The handles are attached to the rowing machine with a nylon cord. Although I have no reason to doubt that this line is solid and durable, in my opinion it looks cheap – only I’m picky.
The resistance of the mechanism is created by magnets around the steering wheel, which means it is much quieter than an air rudder – but it doesn’t feel like a rudder moving in the water. It doesn’t give you the chance to get in shape or lose weight, but if you’re used to rowing at Concept2 in the gym, you’ll feel different.
The Crewmaster comes with 10 resistance levels, which are manually selected via the handle on the center console. The range from 1 to 10 is large, but there is no program that automatically changes the resistance for you, such as interval training.
It is a foldable rowing machine, but due to the length of the resistance mechanism it is somewhat uncomfortable to move on wheels when folded.
A big advantage: The Crewmaster comes with a generous warranty on your machine in the middle of the price range. The frame has a ten-year warranty, all parts are covered for three years and labour costs are included for one year. It certainly helps to have peace of mind if you spend $500 :0).
